While global events have naturally dominated headlines, it’s been quite the year for Wales too. 2016 saw the fifth assembly elections, with Labour retaining their place as the largest party. Yet, the addition of UKIP and the loss of the Liberal Democrats signified a different assembly this time round. That difference was incapsulated by the challenge from Plaid Cymru’s leader, Leanne Wood, in that infamous vote for First Minister back in May, and it hasn’t returned to ‘business as usual’ in the months that followed either.
