Next 30: Nick Evans

Nick Evans, 43, is the Managing Director at EvaBuild from Newtown

To mark three decades of the IWA’s role in making Wales better, we decided to look forward to ‘the next thirty years’ by introducing some of the people who will be shaping ‘the Welsh agenda’ as the future unfolds. We have teamed up with PricewaterhouseCoopers and their #GreatWales campaign, which celebrates the ideas and people who contribute to the Wales of the future.

Nick Evans, 43, is the Managing Director at EvaBuild

from Newtown

I am founder and Managing Director of EvaBuild, an award-winning Construction and Civil Engineering Company based in Newtown. Founded in 2011, the business has grown rapidly and now employs eighteen full time staff. Our most notable accolades to date have been winning the South Wales Chamber of Commerce ‘Business start-up’ in 2013, and the Wales Fast Growth 50 Award 2015.

I am a businessman who thrives on working and being based in Mid-Wales. I have big ideas coupled with even bigger ambitions. And most importantly I don’t just think it – I execute it. My strength is in building highly motivated teams who buy into the company values and ultimately deliver high performance levels. My achievements to date accumulated in being a finalist in this year’s Wales Entrepreneurship Awards.

I am currently Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses Powys Branch. This is a role which I actively enjoy, as it allows me the opportunity to network with a wide variety of businesses nationwide, and ultimately provides a platform to meet and discuss business related issues.

Alongside the above I offer time towards providing mentoring services through the Business Wales mentoring programme, and I also form part of an Entrepreneurship Forum meeting regularly with the Welsh Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Infrastructure.

My aspirations are to play a proactive role in improving the infrastructure in Mid Wales to assist in improving working conditions for both existing small businesses, and to hopefully attract new businesses to the area. From a personal perspective I aim to further grow our business to become the leading civil engineering company in Mid Wales, with the aim of partnering with the local NPTC college to furnish the opportunity for apprenticeships.

Each day, throughout the month of June, we are celebrating the exceptional people on the Next 30 list by publishing a short pen portrait here on Click on Wales, as well as raising their profile on Twitter using #IWAnext30 and #GreatWales to highlight the exciting contributions these people are making to Wales’ future.
