The IWA has responded to the Independent review of S4C, convened by the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport
The consultation focused in particular on S4C’s remit, funding methods and governance structure. The full terms of reference for the review can be found here.
The IWA identified 3 priority issues for the review to consider:
- S4C’s remit needs to be expanded to be suitable for a modern Public Service Media provider, and be flexible enough so as not to limit future growth. It should retain the editorial freedom to decide on the most appropriate means of delivery to different audiences
- S4C should continue to be regulated by Ofcom
- The Secretary of State should establish a transparent and accountable framework for determining how sufficient funding for S4C will be assessed.
Our response to the consultation is available to read here.
