Marketing and Events Assistant

We are looking for a skilled and ambitious marketing professional to join the IWA’s high-performing, supportive and flexible team. The postholder will be responsible for providing marketing and events support to the Marketing, Digital and Events Manager, and effective administrative support to the rest of the team when required.

You will support our income generation activities through expanding our membership and supporting our highly regarded events and training programme.

You will be an enthusiastic, highly organised, ambitious self-starter with great communication skills. You will enjoy operating independently with high levels of autonomy and engaging effectively with external partners and stakeholders, as well as with the IWA team. You will have a background or interest in marketing, and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of key marketing principles and practices. You will have an eye for detail, be inquisitive and resourceful, and be comfortable to get stuck in multiple projects simultaneously.

The postholder will report to the IWA’s Marketing, Digital and Events Manager and will contribute towards the effective delivery of the IWA strategy by:

  1. Assisting in the development and implementation of marketing campaigns to grow, retain and diversity our membership
  2. Providing input and support in the conception and delivery of our high-profile events portfolio
  3. Providing timely administrative support to the wider team, including the IWA Director, as and when required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Marketing

  • Working closely with the Marketing, Digital and Events Manager, you will help execute our marketing strategy with an emphasis on growing and retaining our membership, and contributing to the IWA’s income generating targets
  • Assist in the development and implementation of IWA’s marketing campaigns. Explore new lead generation approaches and activities
  • Assist in the creation of marketing materials such as brochures and newsletters. Liaise with team members and external designers and agencies to commission new assets
  • Ensure all our comms and marketing output is branded in line with our brand guidelines
  • Create engaging content for our social media platforms and email marketing campaigns. Monitor and report on trends, effectiveness of channels, email performance and new opportunities in the digital space
  • Regularly update our CRM and website

Events and training

  • Assist in the planning and delivery of our diverse events portfolio including liaising with attendees, speakers and suppliers
  • Manage ticketing platforms and queries
  • Collate attendee reports and delegate lists
  • Build and sustain relationships with external stakeholders
  • With support from the wider team, ensure our events are widely promoted across all our platforms and networks
  • Assist in the development of event and training materials
  • Collect and report on event and training feedback

General

  • Support the Director and the wider team with administrative tasks as and when required
  • Assist the editorial team with the publishing process of our in-house magazine, the welsh agenda

 Person Specification

 Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven experience in a marketing role in an organisation which engages with the public
  • Proven track record in developing and managing positive relationships with external stakeholders or clients
  • Experience with email marketing tools such as MailChimp 
  • Experience with social media platforms for business, as well as the ability to draw insight from digital analytics
  • Experience of delivering events (virtual, in person and hybrid)
  • Knowledge of key marketing principles and practices, including audience segmentation and targeting
  • Strong digital and IT skills to include use of full Microsoft Office package / Google equivalent
  • Experience of using Salesforce or similar customer relationship management system to manage memberships/customers, and to create and use reports to understand and address trends
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop good working relationships and communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to write strong copy for a range of platforms and audiences
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, to deliver against short term and strategic priorities, and to prioritise and manage own workload effectively
  • Ability to work independently and be prepared to be flexible and mutually supportive within a small and busy team, including working early mornings and evenings as required
  • Degree in marketing or related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • An interest in Welsh current affairs and key themes that will impact on Wales’s future
  • Experience of using WordPress or similar content management system to upload, edit and publish content
  • Experience of working within a membership organisation
  • Fluent written and spoken Welsh
  • Graphic design

Contract term: The post is full time (37.5 hours per week) for a fixed term of 24 months (with potential for extension, depending on funding). The salary is £21,000 per annum.
