“Brave New Wales: Challenges for lifelong education in changing times”

In the 50 years since Harold Wilson first introduced the idea of a ‘University of the Air’, The Open University has provided opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and incomes to choose an education that fits around their needs and lifestyle and open doors to better employment options.
Since the introduction of the new student finance system known as Diamond, thousands more people across Wales now have access to flexible, part-time education. That’s making a massive contribution not only to their lives, but also to their communities and the nation.
This event will look at what’s next for education and lifelong learning in Wales, exploring the challenges and opportunities Wales faces over the next 50 years – such as automation, increased life expectancy, and more people changing career more often – and how we all need to adapt.
Join us to discuss how the education and lifelong learning sector can respond to these challenges and opportunities and ensure that learning continues to be open to everyone in Wales.

Cyflwynwyd gan y Sefydliad Materion Cymreig a’r Brifysgol Agored yng Nghymru
Yn yr hanner canrif ers i Harold Wilson gyflwyno’r syniad o ‘Brifysgol yr Awyr’, mae’r Brifysgol Agored wedi cynnig cyfleoedd i bobl o bob oed, cefndir ac incwm i ddewis addysg sy’n addas ar gyfer eu hanghenion a’u ffordd o fyw, ac agor drysau i gyfleoedd cyflogaeth gwell.
Ers cyflwyno system gyllid myfyrwyr newydd Diamond, mae miloedd mwy o bobl ledled Cymru’n gallu cael mynediad i addysg hyblyg a rhan-amser. Mae hynny’n gwneud cyfraniad aruthrol nid yn unig i’w bywydau nhw, ond hefyd i’w cymunedau ac i’r genedl.
Bydd y digwyddiad hwn yn ystyried beth sydd nesaf i addysg a dysgu gydol-oes yng Nghymru trwy archwilio’r heriau a chyfleoedd sy’n wynebu Cymru yn yr hanner canrif nesaf – megis awtomeiddio, disgwyliad oes hirach, a mwy o bobl yn newid gyrfa’n fwy cyson – a sut mae angen i ni gyd addasu.
Ymunwch â ni i drafod sut gall y sector addysg a dysgu gydol-oes ymateb i’r heriau a’r cyfleoedd hyn a sicrhau fod addysg yn parhau i fod ar agor i bawb yng Nghymru.
