Join us, the Swiss Ambassador to the UK and Welsh constitutional experts to hear about the Swiss federal system against Welsh devolution.

The Swiss decentralisation experience & Wales’ constitutional perspectives

A highly developed, mid-sized European country, sitting outside but bordering the EU and with a devolved system of government. A description that could apply equally to Switzerland or the United Kingdom, and Wales within it.

So what can we learn from the unique internal and external governance of Switzerland as we participate in the national conversation focused through the Independent Commission on the Constitutional Future of Wales?

Join the Swiss Ambassador to the UK for a keynote speech, followed by a panel of constitutional experts as we explore this question.

Drinks and networking to precede and follow the panel discussion and Q&A.

Panellists:

  • Ambassador Markus Leitner – Ambassador of Switzerland to the United Kingdom
  • Prof. Laura McAllister CBE – Co-Chair of the Independent Commission on the Constitutional Future of Wales
  • Sir Paul Silk CBE – Former Clerk to the National Assembly for Wales (now Senedd Cymru)
  • Glyndwr Cennydd Jones – Fellow of the IWA and writer on constitutional issues

The event will take place in person and will be chaired by the IWA Director, Auriol Miller.
