Darparu economi natur-bositif sy’n gwrthsefyll newid hinsawdd
Mae pawb ohonom yn dibynnu ar ein byd naturiol fel y sail i’n heconomi. Er hynny, mae’r ddau beth yn parhau i wrthdaro’n aml. Mae colledion rhywogaethau a chynefinoedd yn uwch nag erioed, gydag un ymhob chwe rhywogaeth yng Nghymru yn wynebu risg difodiant.
Yn y cyfamser, mae Cymru eisoes yn profi effeithiau newid hinsawdd – mwy o lifogydd, cyfnodau o sychder, tannau gwyllt, a diffyg cynyddol o ran diogeledd bwyd. Mae mwy na 273,000 o gartrefi yn wynebu risg llifogydd yng Nghymru. Yn aml, mae llifogydd yn cael mwy o effaith ar aelwydydd incwm is nad ydynt yn gallu fforddio gosod mesurau i wrthsefyll llifogydd yn eu cartrefi na thalu premiwm yswiriant i gynnwys risg llifogydd. Mae’r ffaith eu bod yn agored i niwed ariannol o’r herwydd yn bygwth aelwydydd a busnesau, a chyllidebau arian cyhoeddus ac economi sefydlog hefyd.
Rydym wedi niweidio gallu Cymru i wrthsefyll digwyddiadau tebyg trwy ddiraddio’r amgylchedd trwy, er enghraifft, draenio mawnogydd, diraddio morfeydd heli, lleihau gorchudd coed mewn mannau, gosod concrid dros fannau gwyrdd mewn ardaloedd trefol ac adeiladu ar orlifdiroedd. Rydym wedi tanseilio gallu’r amgylchedd naturiol i ymdopi.
Mewn ymateb, rhaid i Gymru drawsnewid ein heconomi er mwyn iddo weithio gyda natur i gryfhau ein gallu i wrthsefyll newid ac ergydion yn y dyfodol. Bydd y gweminar hwn yn edrych ar rôl natur wrth galon ein heconomi ac yn pwysleisio’r ffyrdd y gallai trawsnewidiad economaidd gwyrddach bod o fudd i Gymru. Bydd yn gyfle i drafod rôl datrysiadau sy’n seiliedig ar natur ac i edrych ar sut all gweithredu i adfer natur a gwella’r gallu i wrthsefyll newid hinsawdd gael effaith gadarnhaol ar yr economi, costau byw, iechyd a swyddi, a gwarchod cymunedau yng Nghymru.
Dan gadeiryddiaeth Cyd-gyfarwyddwr y Sefydliad Materion Cymreig Joe Rossiter, bydd y gweminar yn dod â phanel o arbenigwyr at ei gilydd i bennu argymhellion blaenoriaethol i Lywodraeth nesaf Cymru ac i fusnesau. Yn ymuno â Joe bydd:

We all depend on our natural world as the foundation upon which our economy is built. Yet they often remain in conflict. Species and habitat loss are at an all-time high with 1 in 6 species in Wales at risk of extinction.
Meanwhile, Wales is already feeling the effects of climate change – more floods, droughts, wildfires, and growing food insecurity. Over 273,000 homes are at risk of flooding in Wales. The impact of flooding is often worse on lower-income households who cannot afford to make their homes flood-resistant or pay the insurance premiums to cover flooding risk. The resulting financial exposure threatens not only households and businesses but also public finance budgets and a stable economy.
We have damaged Wales’s resilience to such events by degrading the environment through, for example, draining peat bogs, degrading saltmarshes, reducing tree cover in places, concreting green spaces in urban areas and building on flood plains. We have undermined the ability of the natural environment to cope.
In response, Wales must transform our economy so that it works with nature to make us more resilient to change and future shocks. This webinar will explore the role of nature at the heart of our economy and highlight the ways in which a greener economic transition can benefit Wales. It will be an opportunity to discuss the role of nature-based solutions and explore how action to restore nature and build resilience to climate change can have a positive impact on the economy, cost of living, health, jobs and protection for communities in Wales.
The webinar, chaired by IWA’s Co-Director Joe Rossiter, will bring together a panel of experts to identify priority recommendations for the next Welsh Government and for businesses. Joe will be joined by:
