The two IWA Professional Training courses (Decision Making in Wales and Influencing Political Outcomes) are designed by the IWA, and led by Andy Regan, our Policy & External Affairs Manager.
Andy has over ten years experience of decision making and influencing in Wales, both inside and outside public bodies. Before joining the IWA, Andy was an energy policy specialist at Citizens Advice – coordinating the Fuel Poverty Coalition Cymru. He has also worked for Ofgem, the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, and the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales.
‘Decision Making in Wales’ course aims:
To give learners a good understanding of how Government and politics works in Wales.
The course will provide an overview of the roles of the National Assembly and Welsh Government, and how decisions are made.
Learning outcomes:

- How the Assembly and the Cabinet work
- The differences between the political parties
- The development of devolution
- The relationship between Wales, Westminster and the EU
- How public finance works in Wales

This course will be followed by an advanced lobbying course “Influencing Political Outcomes“. Previous participants have recommended taking both courses for maximum insight.
