The IWA is pleased to announce the appointment of Gwendolyn Sterk as the new Chair of our Board of Trustees. We are delighted that Gwendolyn will support the team in continuing to be a vital voice in Wales’ civic life.
Gwendolyn will be taking over the role from Ben Joakim, who has held the role for two years. We are extremely grateful to Ben for all his work and support steering the organisation through a particularly critical time with a leadership transition in a challenging external context. The organisation is well placed to build on these solid foundations going forward.
Gwendolyn has a deep commitment to addressing societal inequalities through collective action in civil society, and with extensive experience across the third sector, we look forward to working together as we navigate a politically crucial 2026 and beyond.
Gwendolyn says: “I’m really excited to be taking on the role of chair at such an important organisation in Wales. The IWA’s independent voice matters now more than ever and we will continue to develop ambitious ideas and give them a platform to work towards a Wales that is a fairer and more thriving nation. We’re lucky to have such great support from our diverse members right across Wales and beyond. If you’re not a member yet, we’d love for you to join us on this exciting journey ahead.”
